M.I.T. Game-Changer: Free Online Education

Online teaching of M.I.T. courses free of charge to anyone in the world. The program will not allow students to earn an M.I.T. degree. Instead, those who are able to exhibit a mastery of the subjects taught on the platform will receive an official certificate of completion. The certificate will obviously not carry the weight of a traditional M.I.T. diploma, but it will provide an incentive to finish the online material.

How my child went from home school to Harvard and yours can, too

Interesting article on Fox with a parents suggestions for getting homeschoolers into Harvard. “My advice as the home-school dad of a Harvard superstar scholar and athlete? Take control. Take charge. Take action. Be pro-active. Become the CEO of your child’s future.”

My opinion? It’s true that homeschoolers CAN get into Harvard – but not ALL homeschoolers – you still have to get the perfect SAT and the rest. Homeschooling is the EASY part of getting in, it’s the rest that’s hard.

Comprehensive Record Solution
Review by Molly Evert of My Audio School

I recently completed the records for my homeschooled son’s freshman year in high school.  I was nervous about writing his transcript and unsure about how to best showcase my child’s unique strengths, but Lee Binz demystified the process for me with her Comprehensive Record Solution.  In hindsight I needn’t have worried so much about the transcript, as it didn’t take me long to put it together once I had a good model to follow.

My son’s transcript shows that he received excellent grades, but a transcript is a limited document.  It cannot adequately reveal the academic rigor of my child’s coursework.  That’s where the Comprehensive Record Solution (CRS) comes in!  It is a useful tool which goes way beyond the transcript.  Lee taught me how to write course descriptions which authenticate the hard work my child has done, enabling me to show off areas where he shined.  In addition to descriptions for each of his classes, his comprehensive record also contains his reading list, an activities and awards list, and a selection of work samples from each of his classes.

Initially I was overwhelmed when I thought of documenting his high school records.  Lee’s encouragement helped me to overcome my fears and to tackle the process in bite sized chunks.  In the end, it didn’t take nearly as long as I thought it would, even though I wasn’t as organized as I should have been.  It will be even easier next year, now that I have the framework completed and know what I should be doing along the way to streamline the process.

The CRS was convenient to use since much of the information is presented in three formats: audio, video, and print format.  I could use the format that appeals most to me (video) to learn the system.  Then I could easily flip to one of the articles to refresh my memory on specific points as I was going through the process, and I was even able to download some of the audio sessions to listen to on the go.

The features I liked best about the CRS were the samples and templates included in the course.  I gleaned a lot from looking at sample records that others had put together, and she had tons of sample course descriptions which I could easily adapt for my own purposes.  It was easy to jump in and get started using the blank downloadable templates provided with the course.  I was able to prepare a professional looking product relatively quickly thanks to the previously formatted templates.  Lee even offers to review some of your course descriptions to make sure you are putting your child’s best foot forward.

I initially thought the price of this course was steep, but I changed my mind after using it.  My son is still in high school, so we have yet to see what kind of scholarships he will be offered based on his grades and test scores, but well prepared and thorough records can only serve to help him as he seeks to get the most scholarship money he can.  I truly believe he will receive many more scholarship offers because of his excellent records than he would have if I had not prepared a comprehensive record.  I feel confident that his comprehensive record highlights his unique strengths and effectively demonstrates the rigor of his course of study.  Lee relieved this busy homeschool mom’s stress, by giving me the tools and the know-how to prepare excellent and thorough records.  For those reasons, I believe I will get exponentially more value out of this product than what Lee is selling it for.  With that said, I received a free three month trial of Comprehensive Record Solution in exchange for my honest review, and was not compensated in any other way.

A Lovely Review

Mary and Son North Carolina 300x199 A Lovely Review

I received this wonderful note from a long-time client. She recently graduated her son, and she tells me that she is always recommending me to her friends. Recently she posted this in her support group forum, and she sent it to me, so I could publish it as well. Thank you, Mary!

Blessings,

Lee

I discovered Lee’s site a year and a half ago when trying to prepare for my son’s college entrance with documents and course description requirements. I was amazed at how much help Lee offered.

Lee has a heart for homeschool moms trying to sort through all the confusing info out there, she’s not judgmental about doing things “the one way”, and has a gift for doing her homework regarding everything from obtaining scholarships to preparing transcripts that showcase your child’s uniqueness for colleges (something, by the way, colleges are beginning to realize is more important than cookie-cutter applicants with just the right test scores or AP courses on their resume). I cannot recommend her services highly enough.

She also has much information for moms of middleschoolers regarding course planning as well as many other helps for that season of homeschooling. I don’t have personal experience with her help for middleschoolers as I was well into the high school years with my kids when I discovered her, but I’ve reviewed her resources for that level and thought how nice it would have been to have had that input during my middleschooling years!

You can take advantage of her many “freebies” available on her site, purchase single-topic courses, or join her Silver or Gold Clubs for many more resources. I am not a paid advertiser for Lee – I’m just a grateful mom who wouldn’t do without her continued valuable help at this point in my homeschool career! I still have two in high school so I have a ways to go and I still depend on her wisdom and wonderful resources for those of us who are homeschooling through high school.

Lee’s input enabled me to prepare a “Comprehensive High School Record” for my son which allowed me to present in a college-friendly format his uniqueness and his strengths, along with the details of the rigorous education he had received here at home. He was accepted into the college of his choice, and I received feedback from the academic dean and the admitting office that the content was exactly what they wanted to see for review purposes. I would not have known where to start without the specific and very encouraging help she gave.

If you want to take a look at her heart, take a few minutes to watch the video clip regarding her philosophy on her homepage. She’s really a gem!

A Big Homeschool Question: Is This Class a Credit or Not?

play 300x199 A Big Homeschool Question: Is This Class a Credit or Not?

Determining just how much theater comprises a high school credit is hard. The broad idea for almost all classes is 5 hours a week for a full year of school, which means you can easily determine if that’s an adequate amount of for a credit or perhaps for a half credit. There’s no real “absolute” right and wrong option.

I like right-and-wrong math questions, therefore I never felt genuinely at ease estimating on credit value. I generally did the “5 hours per week” rule. If perhaps it’s less complicated, you could total all of the hours together to figure out the credit value. The majority of books suggest that 120-180 hours is a credit. Given that quite often performance week in theater can add an easy 40 hours, you could have an less difficult time simply holding out until you have the total before you determine what number of high school credits it’s worth.

Don’t forget that colleges are only looking for 1 credit of fine arts; and fine arts are a combination of music, art, theater and dance. If you feel it’s enough, that’s great. Otherwise, look into additional supplements to make up the difference.

Homeschool Record Keeping Does Not Need To Be Scary

Homeschool record keeping concerns can be done away with!

“I am so afraid of homeschooling my high schooler next year. I don’t think I can keep up with all the record keeping that will be required. Any help would greatly appreciate because he doesn’t want to go to public school and that is where my thoughts are heading toward. ” ~ Kim on Facebook

worried 199x300 Homeschool Record Keeping Does Not Need To Be Scary

Nothing educational has to change when your child starts homeschooling high school! The only variation is that you want to somehow maintain a running total of what your child has finished. That “running total” is known as a transcript. It’s advantageous to design a transcript as well as a reading list. When you are at ease with that, contemplate creating course descriptions.

Making a transcript is similar to riding a bicycle. When you have learned how, it always feels uncomplicated and you never have to learn how to do it again. You do not have to learn it again for each of your 8 children, you only have to learn it once. None of the record keeping projects (transcripts, reading list, or course descriptions) are particularly complicated. It only calls for a little bit work to learn how, after which you’ll find it straightforward.

When I wrote my book on high school record keeping, I did it with mothers like Kim in mind. I wanted to be sure to explain it in the most basic and least difficult approach possible. My book is called Setting the Records Straight: How to Craft Homeschool Transcripts and Course Descriptions for College Admission and Scholarships. About 1/3 of the book is from my ebook called “The Easy Truth About Homeschool Transcripts. ” About 1/3 of the book is a section concerning how to produce course descriptions. About 1/3 of the book is just samples of homeschool records and course descriptions, such as my complete homeschool as well as records from two other moms who were likewise successful. I really do try to cause it to seem as straightforward as possible!

The Total Transcript Solution can help you even more, especially if you will be in a hurry, if perhaps you like ebooks, or if you are a visual learner who does best by means of webinars or videos. It offers four steps: an class on Making a Transcript, an ebook on transcripts that you may print or read on your computer, a full set of transcript templates so you can select the one that looks prettiest to you, and one month of support from weekly 20 minute consultations with me. So even if you’re worried, you can get help!

I promise, there is nothing scary about homeschool record keeping! You can do it!

Admission Advice for Homeschool Military Academy Enrollees

Military academies. The uncomplicated thing concerning getting in is to be a homeschooler. The complicated part with regards to getting in is everything else.

The military academy candidates looking for admission have to get a nomination, in most cases through a congressman. When was the last time you talked to your representative? Sally and I happen to be chatting concerning her son’s application to a military academy, and she has verified their admission requirements again.

teen boy 300x199 Admission Advice for Homeschool Military Academy Enrollees

The things you have suggested are right on for what we are trying to do. We are finding that having a high school sport is pretty important as well as physical fitness. Grades and awesome test scores are also important. And finally, leadership is utmost. There has to be proof of the student’s leadership, like team captain, community service, teaching others, etc. The umpiring that my boys did is really good.

Another thing we are finding is that with the economy as it is, the number of military ROTC and academy applicants is doubling and tripling…. very competitive. But as you said, it is great to be homeschooled as long as you have the above characteristics. AND get the paperwork in EARLY!!! Oh, and you were right on with your advice on Foreign Language. They want to see Russian, Chinese, Arabic, Japanese, or Persian. We went for Arabic.

~ Sally in Washington

The military academies want “evidence” regarding athletics just like they want evidence of of leadership. One particular recruiter explained to me that physical fitness proof does not necessarily mean ONLY high school athletics. It can mean running timed races, biking on the Seattle to Portland race, signing up for a running club or biking club. A 5K can be an fantastic example of demonstrating physical fitness. Just about any measurable physical fitness, really. Very much like leadership is measurable in the event that your children were umpires, like Sally’s. One of the most effective methods to document your homeschool that is certain to get the colleges to take notice is with comprehensive homeschool records.

College Tests. Which One Should We Take?

It is complicated to look at the pros and cons of CLEP, AP, and Community College.  When colleges have different regulations, how do you determine your plan?

I had a question about CLEP/Community College credit. When colleges have different rules how do you determine your plan of action? One college has a on AP and IB credits with a sentence about “taking one of their placement tests”. At this point, the plan is to continue taking Community classes, perhaps take a CLEP or two, and take the college placement tests upon arrival. Other schools have charts linking their courses to the Community College to show how the credits compare, transfer and equate. Another school has told him, “We will let you know when you get here. ” The bottom-line for us is to design our high school program around what we want, not the colleges. Any feedback is appreciated.

~Audrey

Every single college has its own policy about CLEP, Community College and AP. It’s really a moving target, and it can be hard to determine in advance what will happen with each college. Each college may decide to use one method, or all three. It’s impossible to guess on their policy.

college test 199x300 College Tests. Which One Should We Take?

College placement tests are usually rather different than CLEP or AP. They were designed for this generation of students that arrived at college with  an accredited high school transcript but without the ability to do college level work. These placement tests are generally given during or before the first week of college to discover whether students need remedial help in reading, writing, or math. They will also assist the college in placing children in the proper level of foreign language or other subject area.

Those placement tests generally do not incorporate college credit or the financial benefit of speeding the college degree. On the other hand, particularly weak performance may increase the time in college if remedial help is necessary.  Again, these tests have become popular as the result of the poor quality of high schools in general. If your child is reasonably well educated, I don’t feel you will need to stress about that.

College admissions should know their policy when you apply in the fall of senior year. If they continue to indicate their policy could change, then save their existing policy on the website. It may require you to take a screen image of their website, so chances are your teenager will need to help with those technical issues, LOL! But with that online policy saved, if the college changes their policy you could possibly convince them to apply their previous policy to you, since you have proof that you were attending their college based on their stated policy. That’s complicated, I know.

A less complicated way is to consider which college is your favorite, number one college. Then do what THEY want you to do. If they prefer AP, then give them AP. If they don’t accept Community College, see if your child can pass and AP or CLEP after each community college class.  Do what it takes to meet the specifications of only your number one college.

Another option is to search for a college specifically because it will meet your requirements for AP, CLEP, or community college. That’s a helpful technique where money is the primary concern.

The BIG Homeschool Question

It’s a common question, frequently posed by skeptical friends and loved ones. When homeschooling high school, the question “what about college? ” becomes more pressing. Intuitively, parents know that if they try to homeschool high school – and in some way fail – there will be nobody to blame but themselves. Parents are looking for some peace of mind that this path can lead them to the promised land of college admissions and scholarships.

graduate 199x300 The BIG Homeschool Question

I have great news! Colleges love homeschoolers! Homeschooling high school is starting to be more and more common, and colleges are very familiar with home education. Colleges try to attract homeschoolers through marketing campaigns and advertising. They want homeschoolers, and they spend money trying to attract home educated young people. My kids were admitted to every college where they applied and many other families are experiencing the same results.

Homeschooling high school can provide great college preparation. It comes from the nature of homeschooling itself. Homeschooling is efficient and effective, so families actually have more daily educational hours at their disposal. By focusing on the content of education, instead of all of the time-wasting activities that occupy public school students, homeschoolers can learn more and learn faster than their peers.

Parents can use this extra time to their benefit, by helping their child to dig deeper into subjects than they could in other educational settings. It is not unusual for homeschool students to show an adult level of expertise in their area of interest by the time they reach high school. My son had an interest in economics and public policy, and the overall flexibility of homeschooling permitted him to work at a public policy think tank from the time he was only 14 years old.

It’s not unusual for homeschoolers to develop unique pursuits like my son. Homeschoolers typically dominate geography and spelling bees not because those children are “pushed” into interests, but simply because of the profound independence they have in their schooling. The ability to “go deep” and “go wide” offers them a remarkable advantage over other students. It offers them the elusive ingredient that all colleges look for in their new admits — “individuality. ”

Do not place artificial limits on your homeschool. It doesn’t need to follow the form or convention you grew up with. There is a profound difference between “homeschooling” and “schooling at home”. Homeschooling independently is about freedom; the freedom to follow excellence in education as far and as deep as your student’s passion will allow.

Independent homeschooling can provide your children a real advantage in college admissions. Have confidence in your ability. Homeschooling high school is the best preparation you can provide your children for college and for life! How to Submit Your Homeschool Course Description

One of the large tasks regarding homeschool high school can be writing course descriptions.  There comes a moment in senior year when a light bulb goes on. “What precisely do I DO with it? ”  How do you actually submit course descriptions to a college?

19159111 199x300 How to Submit Your Homeschool Course Description

Each individual college will have unique standards and suggestions, so it is best to ask them directly, and then try your best to do it exactly the way they require. You really want to make it as convenient as possible for the college, so they have warm feelings about your child – such warm feeling that they would like to give you scholarships.

Some colleges want the information in an email attachment.  Some might want a paper copy.  A few will require a computer disc sent to them.  It’s impossible to guess which way a certain college wants the information. You can ask each admission department specifically how they want your course descriptions.  If they don’t answer then mail them a hard copy of the documents WITH a disc. That way they can have it physical or electronic.

When submitting homeschool transcripts and course descriptions, provide a one-page transcript first.  Underneath that single loose piece of paper, provide the course description packet. That way colleges can see an overview of the student first, and determine if they WANT to read course descriptions.  It just helps make it a little easier for them to come up with that first round of decisions (for example, has the student met mathematical requirements. )

Shipping a package does not need to hold up your application.  Fill out the applications online first, and get that completed.  Mail the package after.  The day you send in the online application is usually regarded as your official “application date. ”  They expect various other pieces to come trickling in little by little.  The SAT scores, final grades, and other specifics do not come in at the moment of application either.

It’s most effective to send in the online application immediately.  At the same time, write an email to the admissions department to find out the way in which they would like the course descriptions.  People in admissions often deal with schools when it comes to records and transcripts.  They will not view it as strange when a parent handles that aspect of admission.

The Best High School Guidance Counselor… is YOU!

You are the best high school guidance counselor for your child! You are the person who know how to pay for college or how to get financial aid for college for your child’s education.  This article illustrates one way that you are better than a school counselor:For the College-Bound, Smart Ways to Borrow

money 199x300 The Best High School Guidance Counselor... is YOU!

“Families should recognize that higher education is a business, backed by Madison Avenue-scale marketing, and the advice they receive is likely to be biased. High school counselors encourage students to apply to “name” colleges to boost the high school’s reputation, says Bissonnette. College financial aid officers have a vested interest in getting students to enroll, no matter what the cost. And the media, with its rankings of top schools, exploits parental anxieties.”

In contrast, parents can encourage their students to apply to a college that fits the student and their financial situation.  It’s amazingly simple. Parents know more about their child, their financial situation and how to pay for college than a high school counselor.  With that information in hand, the best advice is to apply for a variety of colleges.

The article also gives a few helpful tips on how to pay for college and how to get financial aid for college.  Here are his suggestions:

Start a 529 college savings plan Maximize scholarships and grants first Beware of financial aid package that aren’t automatically renewed Do not borrow more for than your expected  starting salary Overborrowing may spoil your other life plans

I love his conclusion.  It’s a great way to explain what “loan” means to teenagers, in terms they can understand. “If you borrow, double the cost of everything you buy with the loan money — because that’s the real cost of the loan including interest. That $10 pizza is really $20. The $4 latte, $8. And that $100,000 boondoggle to Australia is a whopping $200,000 — an amount that borrower will likely be paying off for decades to come.”

It’s possible to go to college without using loans.  Save money along the way, prepare your child well, make sure they are presented to the college in a positive way, etc.  Choosing the college carefully is a big piece of the puzzle too! Hope above tips would given you an idea of how to pay for college or how to get financial aid for college.

The Relative Importance of Homeschool Transcripts and Standardized Tests

Hi Anne!

The transcript is extremely important. It’s the one page overview of your student so the college can give them a “thumbs up” or “thumbs down” quickly. It’s a good idea to have some outside documentation besides your transcript. Usually that’s the SAT or ACT test. Sometimes it can be online classes, dual enrollment, or letters of recommendation. It depends on the college how much emphasis they put on tests, because each college is unique that way.

family outside 300x199 The Relative Importance of Homeschool Transcripts and Standardized TestsIt’s NOT necessarily good to have both the SAT and ACT test, actually. First, check to see if the college your child wants to go to prefers one test over the other. Usually colleges don’t care which test they take. Then give a sample SAT and sample ACT at home. Kids usually do better on one test than the other. Then take them to be tested with the one that makes them look smarter icon smile The Relative Importance of Homeschool Transcripts and Standardized Tests This article will explain everything. Your children don’t have to have a perfect score, you just want them to score their best.

College Applications: Your Social Security Number is Private

You are not legally required to provide your social security number when applying for a college.  Schools are not required to ask for it.  It will be required for a college loan, but it  should not be required for a college application.  That’s why I recommend that you do NOT put a social security number on your transcript.

social security number 199x300 College Applications: Your Social Security Number is PrivateFor more information, read this document from the Social Security Administration : Legal requirements to provide your Social Security number

“Giving your SSN is voluntary, even when you are asked for the number directly. If requested, you should ask why your SSN is needed, how your number will be used, what law requires you to give your number and what the consequences are if you refuse. The answers to these questions can help you decide if you want to give your Social Security number. The decision is yours.”

When a college asked for a social security number, I wrote “Not applicable” on the application form.  None of the college asked me the question again. Once admitted to a college you will be asked to fill out additional paperwork for financial aid. You can provide a social security number at that time, to that single college.  That can prevent those precious number from scattering through multiple colleges and multiple states with varying degrees of security.  If a college asks you for the number, you can refuse and then provide it later if necessary.

Comprehensive Record Solution Showcases Student’s Talents

Thank you, Sue, for sharing your experience!

Sue Overend Comprehensive Record Solution Showcases Students Talents

Even though I am in the field of education, finding a plan for homeschooling high school and preparing good college transcripts was not easy. Then I came across Lee?s website and everything changed. I first purchased the ?Total Transcript Solution? program to help me organize and plan my 10th grade daughter?s transcripts. Lee added so many bonuses and articles which helped me in the whole process so that I now have an entire high school template to keep our homeschooling on track. The best part was the free month of weekly one-on-one calls where she gave advice and actually critiqued my working drafts. I then purchased the ? Comprehensive Records Solution? and discovered so many ways to enhance my daughter?s transcript. We now work together and actually prepare classes and projects to showcase her special talents in the field in which she wants to study. Without the attention to details found in the comprehensive programs she wouldn”t be as appealing to her college as she looks now. I also felt so strongly in the need for Lee’s programs and services for homeschool parents, just like me, that I shared them with my local homeschool group. Lastly, I joined the Gold Care Club? and can?t wait for my weekly discussion with Lee. I now feel confident that my daughter will have the necessary transcripts for graduating high school as well as the crucial transcripts for getting into the college of her choice.

Why Make a Comprehensive Record – FREE Webinar

Here is a complimentary webinar discussing the value of making a comprehensive homeschool record for your students.  Preparing Comprehensive Records will set your students apart for the crowd of applicants seen by most colleges and can get them put to the front of the line for college admission and scholarship decisions.  Building such records  used to be a daunting task, but I have developed an ingenious way to cut this task down to size and make it do-able for all homeschool parents.

Naming Your High School Courses

Some people are intimidated by grading. Some parents are scared of high school credits.  Then there are some unschool or delight-directed homeschools that really stress out about  naming classes.  It can be pretty easy when you use textbooks (look at the title of the  textbook!) but in other situations it’s not as simple.

naming high school courses 300x199 Naming Your High School Courses

I just got off the phone with a mother trying to name an unusual class. If you are stuck, try Google some key words from the class you are trying to name, with the words “course description.” You’ll come up with a bunch of high school and college class course descriptions that will be similar. Look for the title that best represents your class, and Voila! In this mother’s case, we decided that “Occupational Education: Restaurant Occupations” was the best name for her class.

Did you know that every week on Facebook I provide a video tip of the week for homeschooling high school?  Recently I put on Facebook a video tip about Naming High School Classes.  If you are on Facebook, please check out my fan page!  You can “LIKE” my page, grad my free mini-course called “The 10 Essentials – What Every Homeschooler Needs to Study Before Graduation”

Work Samples: Yummy Dessert of Comprehensive Records

When providing colleges with the information they need, going beyond a transcript can  improve your chances of scholarships.  A transcript may be the cornerstone of admission, but colleges want more than that if you expect them to give you scholarship money.  They generally like to see more comprehensive homeschool records.

yummy dessert 300x200 Work Samples: Yummy Dessert of Comprehensive Records

Samples of student work are the icing on the cake, the yummy dessert of comprehensive homeschool records.

In our homeschool records, I provided three writing samples with out comprehensive records.  I tried to choose a variety of writing styles; research, fiction, and poetry.  I tried to use writing samples that I knew were good.  We had submitted some writing to essay competitions to win scholarship money.  When my children won scholarship funds, I knew the essay must have been good, so I tried to include that piece of work.

In addition, I kept a sample of work for every class on the transcript.  I didn’t submit those to colleges (I figured maybe they didn’t really want documentation of four years of PE, you know?  That could get long!) Instead, I made a note on each course description about how “written work is available upon request.”  I actually did keep something from every class. If they asked me for something, I was able to give it to them.

I was asked for some additional work samples.  I was asked for a “graded” English paper (presumably with some red marks on it) and math work in the student’s handwriting.  Another college wanted to see a lab report from science.  My advice is to be prepared.  It’s impossible to guess exactly what records they may ask for.  Instead of worrying about it, just try to keep a few representative samples from each class.  Then you’ll be prepared
for anything!

Templates are like Recipes

My transcript templates and course description templates are like recipes. They provide FLEXIBLE guidance that you can change to suit your needs.  Feel free to edit them!  That’s why we chose to avoid creating software for our templates, actually.  By giving our templates in Word and Excel, you can change them and alter them in a million ways.  Like they say on American Idol, you can “make it your own” easily with these!

receipe 300x236 Templates are like Recipes

Recently I was working with a mom who had changed the colors, changed the wording, and deleted some columns.  That’s completely fine!  When you are cooking a recipe for the first time, do you add peanut butter if your children are allergic to peanut butter?  No!  You feel comfortable cooking, so you make substitutions.  That’s how a transcript template should be!  I want you to be comfortable with them so you can substitute and change them as desired.

Take it.  Change it.  Make it your own.

The Comprehensive Record Solution Review Reveals “Wow!” Factor

We got our first review on the Comprehensive Record Solution.  Sally is a client I helped with comprehensive records.  By the way, Sally let me include all of her course descriptions in the my Course Description Collection, which comes with the purchase of the Comprehensive Record Solution.

Dear Lee,

WOW!!!!!!  I love this product. Oh, how I wish it would have been available a couple of years ago!!  Still, the info you have shared ever since I met you (thankfully, just before Clayton started high school!) has been awesome.  But this resource contains it all!!

sally family The Comprehensive Record Solution Review Reveals Wow! Factor

Homeschool Mom

I just finished going through it and I am amazed at the wealth of information you have provided for homeschool parents and their high schoolers.  As I am in thick of the application and admission process, I can confidently say that you have done your homework very thoroughly, the information you share is right on, and this product is going to save many homeschool parents time, energy and money.  It is by far the best resource I have seen on homeschooling high school for college preparation and admission.

Not only does it explain the process of creating a Comprehensive High School Record, but it also shares the information in a number of different ways so that parents can learn about it in their preferred learning style:  audio, video or book format.  The written information is clear, concise and easy to use.  The audio/video portions are easy to listen to and your chatty conversation-like style puts the overwhelmed homeschooler at ease.  Also, the user can stop and start according to his or her time restraints. The different formats also give the user an opportunity to see the process of creating a Comprehensive High School Record as a quick overview or as an in-depth course to follow step-by-step depending on his or her need at the time.

You have taken an enormous amount of information and put it into bite-sized pieces so that the homeschooling parent can learn the information and process without becoming overwhelmed and frustrated–that goes for beginner homeschool high school parents and those of us who have been at it awhile. And you speak in the videos like a girlfriend who is going through all the same stuff with me!  I feel myself saying, “YES!!! That was your experience too?!”  It is soooo affirming.

Also, your encouragement is awesome.  I loved the Prologue for Easy Truth About Course Descriptions.  You not only broke the process of writing course descriptions into small, easy steps, but also gave Scripture to inspire and comfort along the way.  You understand the concerns, anxieties and questions of homeschooling parents and effectively address them all.  Not until recently did I realize that creating a Comprehensive Record is a process to be maintained throughout the high school years, not an event that I can just check off and be done with.  You address this idea in your material and it keeps the expectations of the user in check so that he or she does not become weary of it “never ending.”

Another aspect that is very helpful is your warnings against procrastination.  You effectively debunked false self-talk that leads to procrastination.  I am certain that procrastinating is one of the worst things a homeschooling parent can do.  It will terribly limit a student’s future opportunities and cause unspeakable stress during some of the best years of homeschooling…the time when the parent and student get to see the fruit of all their hard work.

Your understanding of the admission process was awesome too.

The format is great.  I will tell you that it is like drinking from a fire hose!  There is so much there and I worry that I may not be able to tell you how easy it is to follow because I have been using your resources for Clayton’s entire high school career.  It all makes a lot of sense to me.  So your inclusion of other course descriptions and comprehensive records add a lot of strength the resource because it shows the variety of ways to display the information, just in case a person who does not think like you do comes along.  It covers a wide range of styles.

As I said, you have done your homework and the experiences and information you share will save many parents hours and hours of time and effort. Your product is worth every penny and I can’t wait to recommend this new resource to all of my homeschooling friends.  Great job and thank you so much for sharing your work, energy, time and expertise with the rest of us.  You have been the best resource for my homeschool high school.

I have written a lot and I could provide more details on what I thought.  As I said, there is so much there.  Nice, nice work.  You are going to bless sooooooo many parents with this!

Blessings and thank you,
Sally

5 BIG Reasons to Get the Comprehensive Record Solution

We have written extensively why documenting your homeschool student’s comprehensive record is a smart idea for every college bound homeschool family. Here are five final reasons you should consider. Documenting your homeschool student’s comprehensive record will help in obtaining college scholarships for your homeschooled children.

crs 250x2501 5 BIG Reasons to Get the Comprehensive Record Solution

  1. College admissions is a high stakes, highly competitive game and you need to put your best foot forward in order to set your student apart
  2. Homeschooling provides students with some very distinct and quantifiable advantages that don’t always shine through in the college application process. A comprehensive record ensures those advantages are highlighted.
  3. College Admissions officials are called on to make some very important decisions (admission and college scholarships) using very limited data (transcript and application.) Most will very much appreciate more information presented to them in a logical, easy-to-use format. The comprehensive record is a proven strategy to give them what they want.
  4. Documenting your student’s records is amazingly motivating to students. We have heard over and over how empowering and inspiring it is to share the process of record building with homeschool students. It makes their homeschool education feel valuable and real to them.
  5. Putting together homeschool records for your student’s college application is a big job. It is always easier to copy a successful model rather than creating one yourself.

Our comprehensive records were viewed by the colleges as a “best-practice.” Seattle Pacific University said they were “the best documents and records” they had ever seen. We were awarded $184,000 worth of full-tuition scholarships for both of my boys from that university and massive college scholarships from the other universities where we applied.  Comprehensive homeschool records opened doors four our family and they can for your family as well. You owe it to yourself and your family to invest in a proven system and let me help you create your own beautiful, inspiring, door-opening records.

I fully guarantee you will be very happy with the product and the results.

We Have a Winner to our Blog Contest!

WOW!!! All told, we had close to 80 entries to our Blog Contest from parents around the globe who shared their hopes and dreams for their homeschool children.  If you haven’t browsed the entries, I know you will find them touching and inspiring.  Check them out here and here.  I was moved by many of the messages and amazed at the love and commitment demonstrated by everyone who entered.

250x250 We Have a Winner to our Blog Contest! In fact, we had so many great entries, it made it very difficult to choose a winner.  Ultimately I chose Cynthia Vereide’s entry because it really captured the heart of homeschool parents everywhere.  See if you agree:

Well, my hopes and dreams for my children start and end with wanting God’s will for their lives. We are near the end of high school for our firstborn. We anticipate college ahead, but are new to the path to get there, and the deadlines and organization required to take this step well. This past summer I worked with Lee and her Total Transcripts Solution to organize the learning that has taken place in our homeschool. What a boost of confidence it gave me, my husband and my girls. We know they have learned, but it is easy to think that the “professionals” do a better job. To accept that we are professionals, and to bring up the records to the look and feel of professional was such a boost. I see the fact of God calling us, and God equipping us as important. I think that this product is a way to be equipped to help our girls find and enter the path to which God has called each of them.
~  Cynthia Vereide

I want to personally thank each of you who took the time to enter this contest.  Your word inspired me and, I believe, they will continue to inspire all the homeschooling parents who have yet to reach the wonderful high school years.
